One of the most unusual features in the interior of the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, in the Cairo Citadel Complex, is this Art-Nouveau minbar (pulpit), lined in gold and emerald green (the color of Islam). Art-Nouveau was really fashionable in the Western world during the turn of the century, particularly in Europe, and it was even used in several civil buildings in the city. However, it was never profusely used in the rather conservative Islamic architecture.
